Japan's Nikkei stock average climbed 1.5 percent to a six-week closing high on Monday, with exporters boosted by the dollar's surge against the yen late last week after better-than-expected U.S. jobs data fanned recovery hopes.

Japan Airlines Corp <9205.t> gained 7 percent after a government source said it is considering guaranteeing about 700 billion yen ($7.8 billion) in loans and other funds for the debt-laden airline.

The benchmark Nikkei <.N225> rose 145.01 points to 10,167.60 and its highest close since late October, though at one point it had risen as much as 1.8 percent. The broader Topix <.TOPX> rose 1.1 percent to 898.93.
