Sensex Moves Higher; Pharma, IT Lead

Indian markets gained momentum as traders continued to square off positions on the penultimate of August series expiry. Broader markets continued to outperform the benchmarks.

At 1:04 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 15846.78, up 76.93 points or 0.49 per cent. The index touched an intra-day high of 15849.35 and low of 15685.49.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 4705.55, up 24.70 points or 0.53 per cent. The broader index hit a high of 4707.05 and low of 4645.15.

BSE Midcap Index was up 0.98 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 1.56 per cent higher.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Healthcare Index moved 1.48 per cent higher, BSE IT Index was up 0.91 per cent and BSE Capital Goods Index moved up 0.85 per cent. BSE Realty Index was down 0.33 per cent and BSE Bankex slipped 0.05 per cent.

Bharti Airtel (3.50%), Wipro (2.16%), Tata Power (1.60%), State Bank of India (1.25%) and Larsen & Toubro (1.20%) were amongst the top Sensex gainers.

Hindustan Unilever (-1.24%), Tata Motors (-1.23%), Tata Steel (-1.18%), HDFC (-0.97%) and HERO HONDA (-0.96%) were amongst the losers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1798 advances and 858 declines.
