US Stocks: The Week Ahead (April 26-May 1)

It appears that the first quarter earnings season has turned out a little bit better than market expectations. Investors will be focusing on the earnings announcement of a number of major companies, including oil giants Chevron (NYSE: CVX), Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM), Pfizer (NYSE: PFE), Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG), and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), U.S. Steel (NYSE: X), Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW), Hartford Financial (NYSE: HIG), Met Life (NYSE: MET).

Meanwhile, the economic calendar kicks off with April's consumer confidence data and S&P CaseShiller Home Price Index on Tuesday. Advance reading on first quarter GDP ended April 18 is due for release on Wednesday. Also due Wednesday is the release of FOMC policy statement. Weekly initial claims and personal income & spending figure for the month of march is scheduled for release on Thursday. University of Michigan/Reuters consumer sentiment index, March's factory and Aprils ISM index and auto sales data will be reported Friday.
